Born on December 2, 1952, she was the beloved daughter of the late Rev. Paul and Elizabeth Kleffel.
Yvonne grew up in Pennsylvania, graduating from Cedar Cliff High School in Lemoyne, PA (Class of 1970), where she played flute and piccolo in the marching band and was an active accompanist for the choirs and pit orchestras. Following her calling to care for others, she went on to earn her degree from the York School of Nursing in York, PA, graduating in June of 1973. A compassionate registered nurse by trade and heart, she worked many years in the ICU at Williamsport Hospital (Now UPMC Williamsport). However, her absolute favorite part of nursing was delivering babies—encouraging mothers and welcoming new life into the world brought her immense fulfillment.
Beyond her career, her heart belonged entirely to her family, whom she cherished deeply. Music was a constant source of joy throughout Yvonne's life, especially when she was seated at the piano. Among her family's favorite and most treasured memories are the moments spent being lovingly serenaded by Yvonne on birthdays and special occasions. She also shared a special bond with her "Mermaid Sisters," eagerly looking forward to their weekly pool gatherings and the laughter they shared.
Yvonne is survived by the love of her life and husband of 52 years, Randall Hazen. Her warmth and legacy live on through her daughters and their husbands: Andrea and Keith Cottrill of Abingdon, VA, Kendra and Keith Post of Prince George, VA. She was the proud and adoring "Nina" to her four granddaughters: Claire of Knoxville, TN, Grace of Abingdon, VA, Alyssa of Prince George, VA and Willow of Prince George, VA. She is also survived by her loving sister, Jody, and her husband Richard Dixon of Mechanicsburg, PA and nephew Christopher of Mechanicsburg, PA and niece Cierstin of New Cumberland, PA.
A memorial service to celebrate Yvonne's life is being planned at: Wesley United Methodist Church, Colonial Heights, VA. (Further details and service times will be announced by the family.)
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Yvonne’s memory to the Alzheimer's Association to support research and family services:
