Tom was born and raised in West Virginia where he worked with his father as a coal miner. After serving in the U.S. Army in Germany he returned and married Mary Nitz in 1960. Soon after they moved their young family to Northern Virginia, where they spent the majority of their lives.
Tom was a skilled auto mechanic and a man who never knew a stranger. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. If he had a tool you needed, he wouldn’t simply lend it to you—he would show you how to use it and help you with your project. His generosity, practical knowledge, and willingness to help others touched the lives of many.
After retiring, Tom spent countless hours volunteering with the Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Woodbridge, Virginia where in 2010 the church presented him their Lifetime Achievement Award for his years of dedication and service. He also took great pride in tending to his beloved vegetable garden with his grandchildren often helping pick the beans and peppers.
Following Mary’s passing in 2020, Tom moved to Colonial Beach, Virginia with his daughter and son-in-law. He enjoyed his new life there, driving around town in his golf cart, being an usher at the local Methodist Church, and socializing at the VFW.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Theresa Andrews (Thomas), and his son, Thomas D. Taylor II (Keith Lehman); his grandchildren, Amanda Andrews Cetel (Michael Griffiths) and Taylor Andrews (Jessica); and his five great-grandchildren, Andy, Maren, Ryan, Thomas, and Josephine.
Tom will be remembered for his generous spirit, his willingness to help anyone in need, his love of working with his hands, and the many friendships he made throughout his life. He leaves behind a family who loved him dearly and countless people whose lives he made a little better simply by being there.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
