Terry was the oldest of three boys born to Ella Mae Cannady Dickens and John P. Lindsey, Jr., on September 27, 1952, in Gainesville, Florida. Terry married Patricia Lindsey on January 12, 1973, and went on to have two children. Terry started working in large-scale construction throughout Florida, eventually becoming district superintendent of the east coast for Ceco Corporation. In 1985, he and his family landed in Walkerton where he eventually started his own pier business which led to him restoring historic structures throughout the community. Today, it's hard to drive through Walkerton without encountering a building that bears the mark of Terry's craftsmanship.
Terry loved his Walkerton community where he never met a stranger and would help anyone who needed it. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, who was a dedicated member of Taylor Hunt Club. Terry loved running dogs, spending time with his friends and family, and watching westerns. His tremendous, and sometimes inappropriate, sense of humor will be terribly missed. More recently, he was most excited about walking his granddaughter, Camryn, down the aisle for her wedding on August 31, 2024.
Terry was preceded to heaven by his mother Ella Mae Dickens, and brothers Tim Lindsey and Sherod Lindsey. Terry is survived by his wife, Patti, daughter Trisha Lindsey of Walkerton, and son Travis Lindsey and his wife Elisa of Colonial Heights. He is the proud granddaddy of Breanne, Camryn (Ryan), Cody, Tanner, Payton, and Tegan. He also leaves behind his brother, Tony Lindsey (Luci) of Brooker, FL, Renee Lindsey Cobb (Glenn) of Weatherford, TX, and Yvette Lindsey Miller (Steve) of Granbury, TX. He also has many nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will miss him dearly, including Sonny Frizzell, who was like a son to him. He leaves behind his faithful canine companion, Moxey.
Terry’s many friends and family are invited to a celebration of life on September 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Walkerton Community Fire Department, 2874 Walkerton Landing Road, Walkerton, VA. As Terry would have loved, his celebration will be filled with friends, family, and food. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Walkerton Community Fire Department, any of the King and Queen rescue squads, and the Virginia Hunting Dog Alliance.
