Born on March 29, 1941, at home in Ware Neck, Virginia. June was the daughter of Elva and Cecil Smith. She was raised in Ware Neck, Virginia, where she went to Gloucester High School, but ended up finishing her education in the very first GED class of Gloucester High School while raising 5 boys. She also had a successful career in Life insurance and Real-estate.
A woman of faith in Jesus Christ, Sylvia June was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Cobbs Creek, VA; she truly loved Pastor Chris Morgan. Her faith in God was clear in her life. She knew no strangers. She had a deep love of her family; especially, her grandchildren whom she invested in deeply. Her grandchild Lindsay had a close bond with her as well as others. Also, her sister Joanne Gayle and the daughter she had always hoped for Jody were loved deeply. Momma was quick to brag on how God had answered her prayer with Cecil’s wife Julie whom she loved dearly too. She found her greatest joy in helping her family and people.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Elva and Cecil Smith; her son Hansford (Butch) Harris. She leaves behind her sons: Timothy Harris, Cecil Harris, Danny Harris, Randy Harris, and Daughter, Shel Belle Ahava. Her sister, Joanne Gayle, her longed-for daughters, Jody & Julie. her grandchildren, Justin Harris, Phillip Harris, Amanda Ambrose, Lindsay Brinkman, Ryan Harris, Chris Harris, Josh Harris, Christina Cibulka, and Tiffany Harris. She also cherished many great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the loving and compassionate care, above and beyond, from the nurses and staff of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital Med-surg & ICU units provided for June and her family during the final weeks of her life.
There will be a Memorial service held at Cornerstone Fellowship Church, Cobbs Creek, Va on 8-2-26 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in June’s memory to Cornerstone Fellowship Church.
