It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald "Ronnie" Steven Cole on September 12, 2025, at age 72, after losing his battle with cancer. Ronnie was a long time resident of Amelia, VA and he was the son of the late Dorothy and Jessie "Jay" Ferguson and was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 4, 1952.
Ronnie was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, finishing at the top of his class at Parris Island and stationed at Camp Lejeune. After serving his country, he worked at Philip Morris as a sheet metal mechanic and retired thirty years later.
Ronnie was known for his quick wit, great sense of humor, and strong work ethic. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, but never met a stranger. During his retirement, Ronnie developed a love for golf and played twice a week at the local course. He enjoyed singing in his church choir, taking care of his yard, and riding around on his tractor.
Everyone will miss Ronnie, especially his family and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was known for his strong, steady presence. When faced with his cancer diagnosis, he remained positive and determined, bravely fighting the disease for 17 months.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Susan Southall Cole; daughters Rachel Bagnulo (Peter) and Sarah Rea (Steven); and beloved grandchildren Sophia, Owen, Skylar, Hannah, and Sierra. He is also survived by his siblings Linda Pavlovsky, Karen Adams, Gary Ferguson, and Jeffrey Ferguson.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia on September 18 at 12 noon, with a reception to follow at the Amelia Country Club. All are welcome. Arrangements are being handled by the Virginia Cremation Society of Virginia.
