Mary was my older cousin by just a few years. We didn’t know each other that well growing up but later as adults, we got to know each other. Mary and her father (Bernie) would travel from time to time up to the Philadelphia /Jersey area to visit my mother (Patricia Mullany Perillo) and other family members.

Mary was never at a loss for a good story and she had many a good story to share! She kept us laughing and smiling. She had a warm heart as well. The last time I saw her was at my mom‘s memorial on Memorial Day 2025. 

I know that Mary was a Buddhist, so I’m going to share this Buddhist meditation of loving kindness in honor of Mary.

Mary,
May you be filled with loving-kindness 
May you be free from suffering 
May be you be peaceful and filled with ease, and whatever form you may be in now, 
May you be well and be happy.

We are devastated to hear this news. Mary was a  kind and devoted caregiver for my mother Mary Evelyn.  We called her "Irish Mary". She is certainly missed.

Mary was one of my best friends. We shared the good times and the bad times. She will be greatly missed. We shared a love of Church Hill, cats, and good Scotch. She was a great support to our mutual friend Robin in her final years and ensured that Robin was memorialized in a manner that would have made Robin very happy. Recently,  Mary introduced me to the Garth Newell Music Center in Warm Springs and the Alexander Paley Music Festival right here in Richmond. Gone but not forgotten.

I was so saddened to hear about Mary. She had been a constant caregiver to my mother-in-law. She had amazing patience, a great sense of humor, and an enormous heart. We will miss her very much. Kit Bredrup

Three fun, colorful, stylish friends!

I met Mary 20 some years ago when we both worked for the City of Richmond. It was a challenging time as Mayor Doug Wilder, had challenged his Directors to “clean up” the city. Mary worked in Human Resources and coached me through some very challenging personnel situations and we became fast friends. On Fridays, we would treat ourselves to sushi and sake, which she loved. She had a genuine interest in my kids and loved animals. One of the last times we saw Mary, she visited us in NC. We will all miss her easy smile, laughter, and adventurous, generous spirit. Rest in peace, dear friend.

We met Mary a couple times at her brother, Tom, and Alisons home on Manasota Key. I remember we all went out to dinner by boat to fun place that had a live band one time. Mary was very interesting and personable. I enjoyed talking with her and was looking forward to her coming back so I could get to know her better. She will be missed. Fondly. I met Mary only two years ago when I was opening my shop three doors down from her on Church Hill.   We soon became good friends during her regular visits and she and my fiancée Maggie and I would regularly visit Liberty Public House for dinner.  She and Maggie were immediately fast friends and we welcomed her into our family, sharing Christmas and Thanksgiving.  When Maggie and I decided to get married, Mary’s name was at the top of the list to invite to our small celebration.  This picture was taken at our wedding celebration on June 22, 2024.   I will always remember her this way.
