Born on May 25, 1941 in Rockingham, NC, Larry was the second eldest child [LT1.1]of Howard Wayne Teal and Sarah Edwards Teal. He graduated from Mineral Springs High School and served in the US Army from 1965 to 1969. His career in hospital information technology began in Virginia Beach and took him to Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, where he retired.
Larry was a man who valued family, hard work, community and his faith. He found joy in listening to music, dancing, playing golf, tinkering with old cars, and volunteering at church on committees, as an usher and even in the choir. Larry had a smile for everyone and always made time to listen.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Ester Baber Teal; his children, Paige Teal Adcock and Larry Wayne Teal, Jr, whom he shared with his late first wife, Penny Ritenour Teal; his daughter-in-law, Tracy Hunter Teal; his grandchildren, Ryan Hunter Teal, Sydney Ellen Adcock and Caitlyn Penny Teal; and his siblings, Patricia Adams, Charles Teal and Linda Teal. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Penny; and his sister, Gloria Jean Lewis.
In his later years, Larry faced Alzheimer’s disease with quiet strength. While the illness gradually took his memory and his physical strength, it never diminished the love he gave or the impact he had on those around him. His family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Watercrest Richmond and Suncrest Hospice for their compassion and support during his final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory.
