Landon Burks Simpson, Jr., 69, passed away Nov. 18, 2024, after his fight with Alzheimer’s disease. He was preceded in death by his parents, Landon and Mary E. Simpson, and his devoted sister, Lana Jean Kyle.
Landon grew up in Clifton Forge, Va., and was graduated from Virginia Tech. After college, he moved to Richmond to pursue a career at Dominion Energy, where he worked for 38 years and where he met Patty, his wife of 42 years. Together, they reared two sons, Joshua and Mason. Landon enjoyed coaching both sons in a variety of sports throughout their childhood and cherished watching them play at the collegiate level as they grew older.
Landon had a passion for art, music and all sports. He loved traveling with his family, visiting many national parks, and taking road trips to Virginia Tech football games. Sadly, after his retirement, Landon was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. During the COVID pandemic, his college friends started regular Zoom meetings with him, which lasted more than a year. Throughout his illness, Landon also was surrounded by the love and support of many friends from Dominion who visited him often.
In addition to his loving wife, Patty, he is survived by his sons Joshua and his wife Samantha, and Mason and his wife Carli; and his five grandchildren, Sawyer, Miller, Parker, Hughes and Carter. He also is survived by his loyal four-legged companion, Bodie; his brother-in-law. Donnie Kyle; and nephews and niece Kevin Kyle, Brian Kyle and Kathie Bean and their families.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to Landon’s wonderful college friends—Peter Fields, Randy Morris, Glen Perry, Ed Pullen and JB Stephens—who remained in touch with him and brought joy to his final years. Special thanks also go to his devoted friends from Dominion—John Wiley, Jim Kelly, Cindy Balderson, Lora Spiller and Angela Jones—who made Landon’s journey brighter. Finally, the family wishes to thank his caregivers at Spring Arbor Cottages/Hermitage Three Chopt.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Circle Center, which provided valuable adult daycare services, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
A celebration of life honoring Landon will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, from noon to 3 p.m. at Raintree Swim and Racquet Club. Guests are welcome to stop by during these hours to visit with the family and share their favorite memories and stories of Landon. A slideshow and music will be presented, and hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served.
