

Janis was born in the fall of the year, October 21, 1944, in Cincinnati Ohio. She attended Kittrell Junior College, where she graduated May 27th, 1962. She later took to the road to travel and went as far away as Puerto Rico during her Journey. On to the greater achievements, Janis received the complimentary degree “Queen Of The South” having previously received the five degrees of the “Order of the Eastern Star” at Queens in the state of New York. She was granted this certificate under hand and seal on January 16th, 1991.
In December of 2000 Janis retired from (ARC) where she worked with special needs citizens. Her social life as a member of Innovage gave her the opportunity to become a member of the “Red Hat Club”
Janis was a dedicated member of Grove Avenue Baptist Church in Richmond Virginia, where she confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior on March 5, 1992, and later was baptized on February 28, 1993, she had a deep love for music, played piano also loved writing. She wrote many stories and plays and was very talented in painting with watercolors.
Janis will be remembered as a woman with a sweet compassionate soul, always willing to lend a helping hand. The best friend you could ever have. Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Lillian Jackson, older sister, Marguerite Jackson Wilford. Janis is survived by one niece Cheryl Smith of Los Angeles California, her best friend of 31 years who shares her middle name “Sharon Ahlin” and a host of many friends and neighbors.
Janis was a resident of Maple Woods Apartments formerly known as Beth Shalom for 20 yrs. She was a mentor to many and very much loved and respected by all.
A Memorial Service for Janis will be held at Maple Woods Apartments 2027 Lauderdale Dr Henrico Va. Saturday October 11th 2025 at 2:00pm
