James Thomas Donley Jr.

James Thomas Donley Jr. of Richmond, VA passed away at home on October 16, 2023, surrounded by friends and family. Jim was born in Arnold, PA on March 8, 1944. He was a multi-sport athlete and attended the University of Virginia on a football scholarship. After graduating, Jim had a long successful career in the brokerage business, working for several firms including, Merrill Lynch and Butcher & Singer in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1997 he moved to Richmond, VA and eventually retired from Wachovia Securities as the President of the Private Client Group. Jim was an avid golfer and a member of the Hermitage Country Club. He was also a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Virginia Cavaliers football team. Jim was a wonderful storyteller and had a larger than life personality which attracted many friends. He is survived by his wife Phyllis and children Shawn, Cole, Erin and Brandon. He is also survived by his sister Patty and grandchildren Reagan, Ryland and Lila. Jim was predeceased by his sister Betty and stepson Josh. Jim's family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on Saturday November 11 at 1pm. The event will be open to all and will take place at the Hermitage Country Club in Richmond, VA. The internment will be a private ceremony in Pittsburgh, PA.
