

Dr. Daniel Anthony Lynch, 89, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at Admired and Retired, LLC, in Chesterfield, Virginia. Born on May 4, 1936, in the Bronx, New York, to Anna Stratford of Galway, Ireland, and Edward Lynch of the Bronx, New York, Dan was one of seven siblings.
In 1952, Dan met the love of his life, Judith Eleanore Johannsen of Pelham Bay. They married in 1960 and had just celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Dan graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School and SUNY Maritime College, after which he obtained his Professional Engineer license, later earning an MBA from Monmouth College and a PhD in Public Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.
He began his career as an engineer with Brooklyn Union Gas Company, later becoming a Divisional Vice President of New Jersey Natural Gas Company in Cape May County, New Jersey. He served his community through leadership roles with the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce, 4-H, Economic Development Commission, Republican Committee, and the Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital Board. In 1979, he became Director of Public Utilities for the City of Richmond, and subsequently led Troy State University’s Public Administration program for military and civilian students in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Dan served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, St. Edward Council, having also achieved the Fourth Degree with the Knights of Columbus.
A devoted student of Irish history, Dan had dual citizenship with the Republic of Ireland. A man known for his honesty and deep love for family, Dan is survived by his wife Judy; children Deborah Doran Lynch, Daniel Edward Lynch (Alice), Judith Marie Lynch, and Douglas Amery Lynch (Shellie); grandchildren Bebhinn Rae (David Monroy), Caroline Carter Emily Lynch, Mairin Kate Lynch, Megan Amery Lynch, and Ryan Joseph Lynch; two great-grandchildren; brothers Ray Lynch (Dawn) and James Ferris; and extended family members Joseph H. Lynch and William “Uncle Bill” Caldwell.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in North Chesterfield on July 17th at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus, St. Edward Council #6546, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
