Carl Gene Rath

Carl Gene Rath, 95, of Glen Allen, passed away June 5, 2026. He is now with his Lord and reunited with the love of his life, Mary Esther Megahan, where he once again can say, “Hello Megahan”. Carl and Mary shared 72 wonderful years together.

He is survived by his three children, Jim (Cindy), Carol, and Doug (Julie), Leah, his Boston Terrier, nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Jack Kearns, and his sister-in-law, Carol Megahan.

After earning his Master's Degree in Education from Geneva College, Carl began his career as a school teacher and later became a principal in Murrysville, Pennsylvania.

In 1958, the family moved to Shadwell, Virginia, to work for the Heinz company and then to Richmond, VA, in 1963, where Carl entered the food brokerage business.

Carl and Mary loved traveling the country in their motor home, always accompanied by their beloved dogs. He was blessed with a large, loving family and many dear friends, including Shirley Cooke, the Childrey family, and countless others who enriched his life.

Carl and Mary were faithful members of Winns Baptist Church for more than 40 years.

Our dad had a great life, filled with faith, family, friendship, and adventure. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA or the charity of your choice.

Per Carl’s wishes, there will be no public service. Burial will be private.
