With this tribute we remember and celebrate the beautiful life of Angela Leone, a woman whose spirit radiated joy, faith, and boundless generosity. Even into her 90s she moved through life with energy that defied her years — traveling to family, serving others, loving deeply, and laughing often.
As a caring servant of humankind, she lived her life rooted in unshakable concern for others. Her hands and heart were always busy — volunteering wherever there was a need, giving of her time and energy without ever asking for recognition. While living in New York, she spent time volunteering at the Vanderbilt Gardens after her retirement from her teaching career. Following her move to Virginia in 2008, she felt led to continue helping others by giving of her time at the Fluvanna Public Library. Her selflessness continued to be shown with her spending Saturday mornings helping at the Clothing Center for the underprivileged in Charlottesville. She also devoted one day a month distributing food to the less fortunate eligible for The Meals on Wheels program. The church was also a place where once a week you would find Angela helping to sort greeting cards and toiletries for distribution to the local women’s prison during the Christmas season. She worked tirelessly to show love and joy to those less fortunate. Laughing was also one of her many delightful attributes, and oftentimes it could be heard whenever she was present. It will be surely missed.
She always made you feel loved. She remembered your birthday, made contact at every holiday, asked about your worries, and celebrated your joys. And of course, we can’t speak of her without mentioning Benji — her devoted dog and loyal companion who she would occasionally reward with a McDonalds cheeseburger. Their bond was something special.
She lived with purpose, she loved without condition, and she leaves behind a legacy that inspires us all. While we will miss her dearly, we rejoice knowing she is now reunited with her beloved Benji, and many other dear family members. Heaven shines brighter now!
May her memory be a blessing, and may we honor her by living with even a fraction of her compassion, courage, and faith.
Angela is survived by her 2 children, 3 grandchildren and several communities of friends who have become dear family.
