Nancy T. Potts

Born on February 7,1936 in Oak Hill, West Virginia to Hunter Summerfield Talman and Mildred Pullen.

Nancy was the oldest of three sisters – Martha Talman Thorn and Margaret (Peggy) Talman Fiorillo.

They grew up in Hinton, West Virginia.

She was inducted into the Hinton High School Sports Hall of Fame where she played basketball, was a cheerleader and the homecoming queen.

Nancy graduated from Madison College (now James Madison University) in 1958 with a degree in Elementary Physical Education. She was also a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority.

She married William (Bill) Eugene Potts on June 25,1960 and they resided in Holmes Run Acres in Fairfax County until 1980. Together they had two children, Rebecca (Becky) Potts Campbell and Rick William Potts.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Becky, son Rick and his wife Rachel and her four grandsons:

Chris (29), Kevin (28), Hunter (27) and Brian (26).

Nancy taught Elementary Physical Education at The Westminster School in Annandale, VA from September 1968 thru June 1980. They moved to Dover, PA until 1997 when they moved back to Centreville, VA to be closer to their grandchildren.

Nancy was a substitute teacher for the York County Public School system and worked for Merry Maids. In addition, she belonged to the “Welcome Wagon Club of York where she continued her love of bowling and playing bridge.

Moving back to Virginia, she joined the school bus fleet in the Fairfax County Public School System from 1997 until 2014 when she retired.

Mom loved to bake, play bridge, bowl, bird watch, garden, sew, draw, swim and attending her grandsons sporting activities where she never missed a game! Mom also loved her German Shepherds. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School while being involved in the Holmes Run Acres swim team and an avid swimmer up until the very end. She passed away from complications of Dementia.

A Memorial Service will be held: Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 2pm

A reception will follow immediately after in the church Fellowship Hall.
