It is so sad to write these notes; and gosh, I wish I had had the chance to meet Micheal before he returned to his creator. I know that Michael was special because he made a difference in this world, leaving a legacy that we should all aspire to leave behind. My condolences to his loved ones and particularly his dear wife, M.K.  She will be in good hands with the strong & loving family and the protective warm blanket of all the people who surround her.  May you continue to rest in peace Michael.

One of my favorite memories was when we shared a fixed price meal in Dole France. It was, for us both, the best meal of our lives. Mike had tears running down his cheeks.

Today marks the anniversary of Mike’s passing, and while it’s hard to believe he’s been gone this long, his presence still feels so close. Mike had an incredible way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and loved. Everyone  who knew him, experienced his warmth, his kindness, and his heart.

On this day I want to send love to everyone he cared about because that’s what Mike did best. He brought people together with laughter, compassion, and a genuine spirit that we all miss deeply. His memory continues to shine in all of us who were lucky enough to know him.

Rest easy Uncle Mike, you are loved, remembered, and cherished always.

People like Mr. Keefe are very rare. Not only was he my neighbor before he moved to Virginia, he was also a very kind hearted, and generous person. When we were neighbors he would let me come over to his house and let me talk to him about anything I wanted. We became very close do to the fact that we had whole lot in common.  Even though he moved to Virginia when he retired, we still kept in touch by talking on the phone. He had one of the greatest senses of humor and would joke with anyone about anything no matter how the bad jokes were. In other words, no jokes would make him mad and he would go along with any joke. He helped a whole lot of people with issues that they had and he was somebody everyone could trust when they needed someone to talk to. Mr. Keefe, thank you so much for being the wonderful caring person that you were. You are deeply missed a whole lot by countless people and we will all see you again when our times are up. Me and everyone you touched will be very happy when we see you again with god. Rest In Peace.

Growing up ,he was a part of our family.( His parents were  my God parents) He and my Sister Patty were born minutes apart. Hadn't seen him in 20 years but when  we talked on phone , yearlyish ,still a brotherly  communication.  Great gentle person. Funny, wicked smart, friendly to all,  . Organized a neighborhood  reunion a few years ago, greatly appreciated. We lost a good one. God's speed buddy. 🙏

Mr. Keefe was a great teacher, neighbor, and friend. Not only did I have him in both 9th and 11th grade, But he was my neighbor and lived right down the road from my house. I was really fortunate to have him as a teacher and a close neighbor where I could go see him anytime. He always welcomed me in his home and we did good things together. He later moved to Virginia after he retired, but when he lived in Jamesville and worked at JD we really became close. RIP Mr. Keefe. You are already missed by many. -Ben Vahey

Mr. Keefe was a fantastic teacher, and his energy for educating and passing on knowledge was strong. There was great kindness and wisdom conferred by his presence as an instructor stylistically. I am honored to be one of his former students (2011-12). He truly was a kind hearted man who left impactful contributions to the world.

I’m deeply saddened to hear about Mr. Keefe’s passing.  He was an amazing teacher, an even better person, and his class was without a doubt the highlight of my day. I’ll always remember dropping in with friends between classes just to hang out and chat for a few, as well as the times spent catching up while walking around the neighborhood and being lucky enough to catch him out in his front yard.  You will be missed, Mr. Keefe. Rest in peace.

Uncle Mike played a significant role in my life. He was a remarkable individual - intelligent, thoughtful, empathetic, an engaging conversationalist, and a great teacher to so many. Something that he knew but would never share is that there were two instances where he heroically saved my life. The first occurred when I was just five years old. In a Winter in upstate New York, I was in a bulky snowsuit. Somehow I wandered alone and accidentally fell into a neighborhood pool to the deep end, with no one aware of my whereabouts. Uncle Mike magically located the pool, dove in, and swam through the icy water to retrieve me, pulling me to safety by my jacket. The second one took place when I was nine. During a visit with Mike, I ventured into turbulent waters and fell off a raft, rapidly drifting towards a waterfall. Uncle Mike again swiftly headed downstream, extending a stick for me to grasp onto, before pulling me back to shore. Throughout the years, I have expressed my profound gratitude to him for his heroic actions that saved my life. He was a remarkable man who deserved so much more from life. I will forever cherish the memories we shared. Though he may have moved on, his legacy of kindness, wisdom, and courage will continue to inspire us all. His words will live on in me. Love you always. May you rest in peace uncle Mike.

Mr. Keefe was the greatest teacher I ever had! He was unlike any other teacher. He was funny, caring & always there to listen & help all of his students. I was sad to hear of his passing. He made such a big impact on so many people. I know he will be missed by everyone. My deepest condolences to his family & friends.

Mr. Keefe is and was a great neighbor, teacher, and man. I enjoyed seeing him walking around the neighborhood and remember running into him at the airport in DC. He will be greatly missed. The Sanville’s!

Years ago we kayaked the Salmon at least once every month of the year.  I only missed February.  Talk about crazy!  That was Mike!

I don’t have a picture with him, but I’ll never forget him or this classroom. He shared a memory on Facebook back in 2018; it was me and two of my friends and I was so excited to hear from him. He truly cared about all of his students, and I consider myself lucky to have known him. He was my favorite teacher of all time and I loved science class because of him. To say I’m sad to hear that he’s gone would be the biggest understatement of all time.. rest in paradise Mr. Keefe. ❤️

Mike was one of the most charismatic teachers I ever had and I am very grateful to have called him a friend. He put up with my shenanigans all throughout high school and we always had enlightening conversations. After graduating we would meet up to go on hikes, go to some concerts, and have dinner with some really good friends. Mike will be missed tremendously but I will always remember all of the great memories we had together.

I met Mike at ESF summer camp in 1973. Over the years we walked and hiked many miles in forests, across farms, along railroad tracks, and the Pyrenees along the French and Spanish borders. We also white-water paddled in our canoes. A few days before he passed I visited him and read a passage in a book of mine he wanted to read, Cache Lake Country.  He will live on in my memory.

I was blessed to have many many fantastic teachers in my life but there were none quite like Mr. Keefe. I will never forget walking into his class first day junior year of high school and he greeted me by name. We had never met before but he had taken the time to look up every student in class so he knew who they were and felt welcomed walking in the first day.  That’s just one small example of what an incredible teacher and person he was. 

Mr. Keefe, rest easy. Please know the profound and lasting impact you had on your students. 💕

Mr.Keefe was truly the best hands down teacher I’ve ever had. If you were having a rough day, go see Mr. Keefe. During my time at JD wasn’t the best but Mr.Keefe’s chem & earth sci class was the best time of day. He will be missed by everyone. RIP Chief Keefe.

I had the absolute honor of being one of Mr. Keefe’s students. He had an absolute gift of teaching and inspired so many of us to strive as growing students to be the best we could be. I credit him in getting me involved in the sciences and led me to take up a career in environmentalism, and I will forever be indebted to his memory for that. We all had a nickname for him, Chief Keefe, fitting as he was a leader in and out of the classroom. May his memory live on… Chief Keefe forever 😔

Mr Keefe was the first teacher to understand me and never judge.  The coolest most laid back teacher I ever had. Would see him out hiking from time to time and he was still the coolest 20 yrs later.  Would say "Corey! I thought that was you and this must be your son."Damn. I know I haven't seen him in a few but damn this hurts. You were a great man. I'm glad my son got to meet you and hear from me how awesome you were. I will never forget my first day in 9th grade in his class. He went around calling out names for attendance but no one was  allowed to say here, or do anything to let him know who you were. He wanted to guess.  And he went around the room and guessed everyone correctly. Maybe mixed up one. But man I thought he was the coolest.  That was day one. The rest of the days were just as interesting.  He made learning so much fun! And was generally a chill guy. He was my science teacher in 9th and my Chem teacher in 11th and my friend since day one. I had my most memorable field trip to 9 mile with our delinquent general Chem class. You were the best. Rest in peace Mr Keefe.

Mr. Keefe is by far one of my favorite teachers of all time and still after all of this time (20+ years) have  kept in touch! He was understanding, encouraging, funny, and relatable to the students. He made science fun and unforgettable. Sending his family my deepest condolences and love during this difficult time. One of the most prominent teachers that influenced my education and ultimately my passion for the sciences- Mr. Keefe was a great mind and an amazing person. He will be missed dearly.

I wouldn’t have made it through JDHS with a regents degree if it wasn’t for the special patience that Mr.  Keefe had for students like myself that had a hard time grasping certain concepts.  He constantly went above and beyond to make sure his students succeeded.

Loved hanging out with him during high school lunches. I've missed him since his move out of doubletree and I'll continue to do so. My condolences to the family.

Im so sorry for your families loss. Mr. Keefe was an amazing man and teacher! Without him I know for a fact school would have been way tougher! I always looked forward to his classes, and he was always such a down to earth, funny, caring guy! My condolences to everyone who knew him!

So. so sorry to read of  Mike’s passing.  He was a good man  and  a great addition to the staff.  He will be missed!

Mike was an avid whitewater kayaker.  Kayaking the Ottawa, Beaver, Moose, Salmon,  Black, Fish Creek, Potomac and many others.

I will miss my lifelong friend, adventurer and daredevil.  Mike enjoyed anything involving water; whitewater kayaking, canoeing, waterskiing and swimming.   The above pic is Mike climbing a high tension wire tower at the age of 15.  We also climbed on top of Boldt Castle the same year.
