He attended the University of Miami on a singing scholarship, beginning a lifelong appreciation for music and performance. In his later years, he discovered a love for acting, becoming involved in local theater and eventually appearing in television shows and films. A member of SAG, he was best known as the “man in the background,” with appearances in shows such as Homicide, Veep, and House of Cards, and films including G.I. Jane, The Winds of War, and In the Line of Fire.
He spent much of his adult life in Annapolis, Maryland, where his love of the water became a defining part of who he was. Whether out cruising (or breaking down) on his boat or enjoying the view, the water brought him a sense of peace and joy.
He lived for the moment—whether it was a boat ride, a spontaneous trip to watch a space shuttle launch, or sharing a joke with friends and family. He accepted everyone as they were and always had a sense of humor. Some say he passed that humor on to his son, who some also say is pretty funny.
He is survived by his son, Sean Dunlop and his wife Connie; his daughter, Allison King and her husband Larry; his former wife, Mary Dunlop, who remained a loving and important presence in his life; his granddaughters, Cassidy Angelo (and her husband Jacob), Emma Dunlop, and Elizabeth Dunlop; and his cousins, Alfred (CB?) and Peter Dedel, who were like brothers to him.
In keeping with his wishes, no formal services will be held. Can’t you see him with a raised eyebrow saying, “I don’t want people to be sad.” In lieu of flowers, please consider buying yourself a nice plant from a local nursery (not Meadow Farms, don’t ask), or making a donation to a local theater such as The Colonial Players in Annapolis, where he loved performing in A Christmas Carol, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Casa Valentina—where he happily took the stage in a dress.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his gentle spirit, great sense of humor, and the way he lived for today.
