Julia “Judi” Carol Alexander of Chantilly, Virginia, passed away on June 2nd, 2026. Born to Albert and Bernas Higgs on February 13th, 1947, in Washington DC, she spent much of her life in Maryland and Virginia before moving to Chantilly in 1983 when she and Thomas Alexander were married.
Growing up in Prince George’s County, Judi was a fun-loving and outgoing Catholic school student who enjoyed playing the piano, spending time with her father (at the local horse racing track), and getting into mischief with her friends. As an adult, her career involved administrative and secretarial roles in various sectors, including architecture and interior design, before devoting her talents as a homemaker and independent sales consultant. Judi felt tremendous pride in working as a longtime Longaberger representative.
Judi had several passions and interests that contributed to a full and rewarding life with her beloved husband, Tom. She loved the water and spent countless vacations at the beach, including frequent summer road trips to Virginia Beach for sunshine and seafood. She spent her mornings working on crossword puzzles, her afternoons gardening in the flowerbeds, and her evenings watching reruns of her favorite TV sitcoms. Judi was a roller coaster enthusiast, an expert interior designer, a lifelong crafter, and an avid writer (and published author) of poetry. She was perhaps best known for her holiday traditions, decorating the house from top to bottom, including an immaculate Christmas village and seasonal Christmas tree which the grandkids helped her decorate time and time again.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Alexander; her children, Joseph Holt, Katey (& Tom) Mostoller, and Wade (& Tania) Alexander; her siblings, Timothy Higgs and Jody Higgs; her grandchildren, Jeff, Tyler, Skylar, Dallin, Keeley, and Kendall; her great-grandchildren, Sophia, Aubree, Addilyn, and Kace. Known to the little ones as “Gram”, she embraced the role of grandmother and great-grandmother with all her heart, creating special traditions and memories with each of them.
Judi was preceded in death by her father, Albert Higgs; her mother, Bernas Thomas; her siblings, Michael Higgs and Joseph Higgs.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice (Lauren, Lorena, and Michelle) for their compassion and care which allowed Judi to remain at home in comfort; Care with Love (Nastasha and Tanya) for their devoted assistance; and all other nurses for their attention and support.
A memorial service will be held at a later time for family and friends to attend.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Judi’s honor to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
