Jacquelyn Irene Morrissey

Jacquelyn “Jacque” Morrissey of Chatham, MA and Jacksonville, FL passed away on July 19, 2026 at the age of 93 in Fairfax, VA where she and her husband had been living the past three years. Born August 11, 1932, in New Castle, PA where she lived until she married Donald Morrissey in 1956 and moved to Washington, DC/Takoma Park where Don was stationed in the Army. After raising her family in Endwell, NY and then moving to Ridgefield, CT, Jacque became active in real estate and found her love for tennis. As anyone who knows her can attest, she was fiercely competitive. She was not there for exercise or to socialize, she was there to win. She was also a fiercely loyal fan – whether cheering on Roger Federer or Carlos Alcaraz or Tom Brady or Caitlin Clark or Akebono Taro.

Jacque’s son Dyke introduced her to BMWs and had her driving on racetracks in no time. For the past three decades Jacque would join her sons Dyke and Mark at Watkins Glen racetrack where she was a student in driving schools into her early 70’s and then for the next decade, helmet in hand, jumped in any car that would take her for a ride!

Jacque and Don enjoyed traveling and were able to live for a short time in Japan for one of her husband’s work assignments for IBM. That’s where she fell in love with Sumo wrestling and Ikebana. She also often reminisced about the honor of attending the public viewing of Emperor Hirohito during his funeral while they were living there.

Once Don fully retired, they spent summers in Chatham on the Cape playing tennis and supporting her son Doug’s restaurants. Jacque became famous for driving around in her red 1985 Jeep Renegade (sometimes wearing a Kaiser helmet). Your first visit (and possibly every visit) to the Cape would include the red jeep tour: hitting all the Chatham hotspots, Provincetown, Wellfleet (for oysters), Scituate (fish camp), and many others. She was passionate about all her must-sees! When not in Boston, she and Don would famously find the best spot on Chatham’s main drag to park their pickup truck, set their chairs in the back, and enjoy the 4th of July parade!

From the Cape, they would drive (often very fast – but smiling white-haired ladies often charmed their way out of a ticket) to Jacksonville, FL where they played a lot of tennis and had a “complicated” relationship with golf - IYKYK. They loved visiting St. Augustine, Ponte Vedre, Daytona for the 24 Hour race, Amelia Island, Epcot Center for the Christmas events, road trips to Savannah and Charleston, and grabbing breakfast at the Beach Hut before a walk on Jax Beach.

Jacque loved art, the cherry blossoms in DC, a fresh lobster roll, anything her sons cooked for her, banana cream pie, Turtles candies, driving fast cars, the True Love sailboat on Seneca Lake, Swarovski crystal ornaments, carving Halloween pumpkins, life size Nutcracker Soldiers, her grand and great grandchildren, Andrea Bocelli and Andre Rieux, coloring Easter eggs, making (and eating) shoefly pie, hydrangeas and rhododendrons, fresh peaches, her Cape Cod blanket, getting photos of her grand and great grandkids, collecting toy Hess trucks, anything Ralph Lauren, and never passed up a sale on cashmere sweaters, tennis shoes or Swatch watches!

Christmas time was often spent with her son in Virginia where they could hop on the train to NYC to see the Rockefeller tree, have oysters at Grand Central’s Oyster Bar, and critique the department store windows. Mark and Leslie also chauffeured a couple of trips to Ireland, so they didn’t have to worry about driving on the wrong side of the road while evading sheep!

She is survived by her husband, Donald, son Douglas Morrissey – wife Julie, son Mark Morrissey – wife Leslie, son Dyke Morrissey – Hilary Larson, grandchildren Conor Morrissey and Brittany Czarnota – husband Chris, and great grandchildren Charlotte and Henry.
