Curtis Witherspoon entered into eternal rest on October 8, 2026. He was born in Rockville, Maryland, on June 24, 1960, to the late Rev. Jesse Witherspoon and Margrette Witherspoon. The family later moved to Freeport, New York, where Curtis attended Freeport Public Schools alongside his siblings.
Throughout the many chapters of his life, Curtis's love for family remained constant. He married Regina Colleen Witherspoon (Grady), and from that union welcomed three children, whom he raised with the values of integrity, perseverance, and self-reliance. Later, he married Audrey Lisa Witherspoon (Rosemond) and embraced a new chapter marked by love, partnership, and the continued growth of the family he treasured so deeply.
Curtis Witherspoon was a man of extraordinary character, unwavering integrity, and quiet strength. He lived his life with purpose, leading by example and making a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Whether as a husband, father, grandfather, mentor, businessman, or friend, Curtis embodied honesty, resilience, and a deep commitment to serving others.
For more than 31 years, Curtis built a respected career in the skilled trades as an electrician, home builder, water heating specialist, and business owner. His hands helped build homes, restore comfort to families, and solve problems that others could not. Yet, his greatest gift was not his technical expertise, but the way he used his knowledge to help people. Curtis believed that true success was measured not only by what you earned, but by what you passed on to others.
One of his greatest passions was teaching financial literacy and encouraging people to create lasting legacies for their families. He firmly believed that every person could build a better future through hard work, knowledge, and discipline. He took pride in sharing wisdom, offering guidance, and helping others see possibilities where they saw obstacles. His conversations often extended beyond business and finances, becoming lessons in perseverance, responsibility, and self-worth.
Curtis was known for being direct and honest. He never sugarcoated the truth, but those who knew him understood that his words were rooted in care, conviction, and a genuine desire to help people grow. He possessed remarkable grit and an extraordinary ability to weather life's storms with grace. No matter how difficult the challenge was, he remained solution-oriented, focused, and determined to find a way forward. He approached life's rough seas the same way he approached one of his favorite pastimes, deep-sea fishing: with patience, courage, preparation, and faith.
A lifelong learner and innovator, Curtis was always searching for better ways to do things. He embraced new ideas, welcomed challenges, and believed growth came from staying curious and adaptable. That adventurous spirit extended far beyond his work. As a passionate world traveler, he delighted in exploring new countries, immersing himself in different cultures, and experiencing cuisines from around the globe. Every journey broadened his perspective and deepened his appreciation for people from all walks of life.
Above all else, Curtis loved his family. Being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather brought him immeasurable joy and represented his proudest accomplishments. He was a protector, provider, teacher, and source of unwavering support. He celebrated the successes of those he loved, encouraged them through setbacks, and instilled values that will carry forward for generations. His family was the legacy he cherished most.
He leaves to cherish his memory and carry forward his legacy: his loving wife, Audrey Lisa Witherspoon; his daughters, Curtina and Rasheeda (Fernand); his son, Curtis; his sister, Katherine Witherspoon-Oden; his brother, Jesse Witherspoon; his uncle, Silas Hammond; his beloved grandchildren, Curshauna, Keontae, A'Veione, Laila, and Olivia; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Curtis was preceded in death by those close to his heart: his sisters, Margaret L. Kidd and Dorothy Terry; and his brothers, Jesse Jr., Benny, Leon, Clinton, James, and Thomas.
Curtis's life was a testament to perseverance, service, wisdom, and love. He leaves behind far more than memories. He leaves behind lessons, values, and a legacy that will continue to shape the lives of his children, grandchildren, family, friends, and all those he inspired. Though he is no longer with us, his strength, guidance, and spirit will remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
Well done, Curtis. Your work here is complete, your legacy is secure, and your impact will live on for generations to come.
