Christa Young was born on March 11, 1943 in Bad Dürkheim, Germany. She had an infectious humor and a heart of gold and worked tirelessly to help the poor and overlooked. Christa volunteered for decades to help the homeless, sick patients in the hospital, children and many others. She loved her painting classes and to swim, where she said she felt free. Christa worked very hard her whole life and was an excellent cook, including the many years she worked as a private chef. She was very close with her family and welcomed them all to her home with open arms and a delicious meal.
Christa was born in her family home and had to be evacuated to a nearby bomb shelter several hours later as an American air raid destroyed much of the house. It was difficult growing up during that time, because food was scarce and her father was in a prisoner of war camp in Russia. But her family worked hard together to persevere and help others who needed it.
She married Charles Young in 1961 when he served in the US Army in Germany. They were married for 65 years and loved each other tremendously. They endured Charles’ deployment to Vietnam and started their new lives in New York, where Christa worked in the local hospital kitchen. She went on to become a private chef for a local family and managed many large-scale culinary events that received great praise. Christa and her family were very involved in their local church, where she frequently volunteered to help the poor and cooked many meals for various charities.
Christa and Charles welcomed their daughter Cheryl in 1976 and Christa was devoted to her, especially ensuring she passed on her love of cooking to her daughter. The three of them were a tight unit and traveled around the world together, sharing many wonderful memories together especially when they frequently visited her hometown in Germany.
Christa passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026 after a five-year fight against metastatic breast cancer. She survived two previous battles with cancer and fought all of it bravely and with a tremendous sense of humor and positivity. She will be intensely missed by her family and friends and remembered by her husband and daughter as someone so full of life.
