Charles Penalosa, 87, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lucban, Quezon, Philippines to Roberto and Salome Penalosa, Charles lived a life marked by service, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to both family and community.
After completing high school, Charles embarked on a distinguished 19-year career in the Philippine Navy, during which he pursued his education at the Lyceum College in Manila, earning a degree in Foreign Affairs. His quest for knowledge and advancement led him to the United States, where he would build an extraordinary life and legacy.
In America, Charles met his beautiful wife of nearly 51 years, Alice Encarnacion. He also brought over his mother, father, brothers and sisters to the States. While building his family, he furthered his education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Strayer University. He then began a 31-year career with AARP, where he worked in finance and accounting until his retirement.
Charles was renowned for his ability to make everyone feel special and welcome. His friends often remarked that he embodied the philosophy that "it's not what you do in life, but how you make people feel." His compassion, sensitivity, and willingness to help others, combined with his infectious smile and sense of humor, left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Nothing brought Charles more joy than tending to his farm in the Philippines, pursuing his passion for gardening, sharing his love of ballroom dancing, and spending precious time with his grandchildren. His enthusiasm for life and ability to make others feel valued will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Roberto and Salome Penalosa, his brothers Rogelio and Elmer Penalosa, and his sister Adelina Pedron. He is survived by his beloved wife Alice Penalosa; his children Liza Penalosa, Mark Penalosa (Haley), and Tricia Sandiego (Marco); Sisters, Filipina Buenaventura (Levi), Nimfa De Villa, and brother Nelson Penalosa, and his cherished grandchildren Caleb, Laney, Charlie, Riley, and Maddy.
